Technical visits – fossil-free industry

A historic transformation is currently underway in the industry to phase out fossil fuels and replace them with clean energy solutions.

The societal transformation is happening now, and it’s happening here. Thanks to our unique conditions—fossil-free electricity, clean water, raw materials, safe and stable environments, and efficient transport routes—Luleå is a central hub for this transition.

Luleå Industrial Park

On Svartön and Hertsöfältet—together forming Luleå Industrial Park—a new industrial revolution is taking place. Here, an industrial cluster is emerging that is developing world-leading innovations.

Happening On Site

Right now, many stakeholders are in a phase where groundwork is being carried out and construction sites are being established. This means we currently have limited opportunities to arrange visits to the industrial park. Instead, we offer alternative ways for you to follow the development of the industrial park.

Ongoing Projects and Stakeholders in Luleå Industrial Park

SSAB

A new electric arc furnace and rolling mill will be built as SSAB transitions to fossil-free steel production by 2030.

LKAB

SEK 10 billion is being invested in an industrial facility to extract rare earth elements, phosphorus, and produce gypsum.

Malmporten

A new deep-sea port and deeper shipping channels will allow vessels of up to 160,000 tons, compared to today’s 55,000 tons.

Power2Earth

Fertiberia, Lantmännen, and Nordion are launching a partnership under the name Power2Earth, aiming to establish Sweden’s first fossil-free mineral fertilizer production in Luleå. The project includes a factory in Luleå and hydrogen production in Letsi, Jokkmokk Municipality. The hydrogen will be transported via pipeline to Luleå.

Talga

Using natural graphite from Vittangi, climate-smart battery anodes will be produced in a brand-new factory.

Uniper

Uniper plans to build a regional hydrogen hub as part of the BotnialänkenH2 project. The hydrogen will be used in both industry and transport.
